European Power to Gas Platform is a joint body, based on an integrated network of stakeholders

This platform aims to explore the viability of power-to-gas in Europe

Power To Gas

Power-to-gas is the functional description of the conversion of electrical power into a gaseous energy carrier like e.g. hydrogen or methane. Learn More

Links with other platforms

Our goal is to have as much as possible an open relation with other expertise groups, in order to disseminate bi-directionally all relevant information and to contribute to the state of the art of power-to-gas.

Our Way Of Working

Three times a year the Platform members gather at one of the offices of the partners (rotating) to meet again and to update about experiences or study results. Additionally, agreements are made upon the continuation of the Platform and the work that will be done. Learn More

Hydrogen drives Europe towards emissions-free transport

  • 13 September 2016

A clean revolution is quietly taking place on Europe’s roads. Hydrogen fuel cells are powering fleets of public buses and refuelling stations are being deployed. Building on the results of several pilot projects, uptake of the technology is accelerating rapidly, putting hydrogen fuel cells in a position to underpin zero-emissions transport Europe-wide. [...]

Power-to-gas: The other storage solution

  • 7 September 2016

Wind power has a problem — like all intermittent sources of power it’s hard to store for long periods of time. That means not only can it be ‘lost’ but also that if the wind stops blowing for a week or so then we’re forced back to gas. This is one of the main arguments used by proponents of nuclear power, for example. Well, what if there were a way to capture surplus wind power energy when it’s especially gusty and save it for times when the winds are weak? No, I’m not talking about batteries. [...]

Our objectives

  • Map out when power-to-gas can be implemented succesfully
  • Support the formation fo collaborations
  • Involve all stakeholders in exploring the possibilities in Europe
  • Line up all stakeholders for supporting R&D and demonstration projects
