German ‘ecoPtG’ project aims to make electrolysis more cost-effective

9 februari 2016

According to the mining.com article four companies partner in the ‘ecoPtG’ project to reduce the costs of their alkaline water electrolyser with an output of 100 kW. The new electrolyser should make power-to-gas methods for hydrogen production more commercially viable. The four companies are:

– UK-based engineering companieIAV
– Zentrum für Sonnenenergie-und Wasserstoff-Forschung Baden-Württemberg (ZSW)
– Reiner Lemoine Institut (RLI), and
– Wasserelektrolyse Hydrotechnik (HT)

The companies intend to reduce the costs of the electrolyser by using technology presently mass produced for the automotive industry. The use of mass produced power electronics and sensor technologies should lower the costs of the electrolyser.
